Translation and Translation Tools Experience

1999 – Present

  • Freelance translator: Duties include translating, editing, proofreading, developing glossaries and TMs, and researching translation tool solutions.
  • Translation tools consultant: Expertise stemming from work in various translation tool capacities at multiple translation companies, extensive personal use of translation tools in daily translation work, and ongoing research and testing on translation tools for professional and instructional use.

2004 – Present

  • Translation tools instructor: Tool-survey and tool-specific workshops (e.g. Wordfast) offered with co-sponsorship by the Bellevue Community College Translation and Interpretation Certificate Program and the Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society (NOTIS). Technology and terminology courses taught part-time as part of the BCC Translation and Interpretation Certificate Program. 

2008 – Present

  • Manager of BCC Translation and Interpretation Certificate Program: Duties include managing the program, setting the curriculum, advising students, recruiting, T&I outreach, and cooperating with T&I companies and organizations, such as the Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society (NOTIS).

2002 – 2004

  • In-house translation tools administrator and translator: Duties at L.A. Translations & Design in Québec, Canada, included developing, implementing, and administering a company translation memory and terminology system around Trados; training employees in the system and writing documentation for it; and translating, editing, and proofreading.

1998 – 2001

  • Professional training: Practical Master's translation program with intensive courses in translation including specialized themes like scientific, technical, medical, legal, and financial translation, plus terminology and CAT courses.

2000 – 2001

  • Thesis translation: Movements of the Depths, a 20,000‑word translation of French science fiction short stories, approved as outstanding.
